Subject: Trying to install 171 updates to 7.04

I put this in the wrong Index. It is now in the New to Linux forum.

When installing these updates I get the error message-
E: dpkg interupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a to correct problem.
E: -cache -> open () Failed, Please report.

After entering dpkg --configure -a I get the message.
dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilage.

I am a newbee and this is a new clean install. I am trying to install the updates so I can install the new 7.10

Any help of any kind would be mush appreciated.

Tom
