Subject: WEB SERVER

HI EVERYBODY

We are running a websolution company specificly working on host and domain services; some of the services on one of our servers (OS: Centos - Config: Dual Xeon 2.0 , 2 GB RAM) is sometimes hanging or not working properly.

I was thinking of changing of the OS but I have no idea of what is the best solution for a webserver which runs more than 400 domain on it.

Please kindly help through this matter

Thanks in advanced

Instead of canning the distro, maybe you ought to have an Apache guru check out your configuration. Centos is a good distro, I wouldn't immediately suspect it as the root of the problem.

What sort of problems are you having?

Yes, I doubt very much that CentOS is your problem, since it should be able to easily handle your load.

IMHO your best bet is Ubuntu, Fedora or Debian.

Fedara is best Linux operating system for Web servers.
Fedora continually undergoes development and updates even after a major release so this may not make it so attractive to use on a mission critical server.

choice of the operating system for a web server should not depend on the operating system on your desktop. That is, if you use Windows on your home/office computer, it is not necessary to have the same operating system on your web server. Rather, your choice should depend on how you create your web site and the kind of applications you want to run on your web server.

In general you can use Linux. They can provide more than 99% uptime even under heavy web traffic. By the way, if you are developing your web site in Microsoft FrontPage you are not restricted to the Windows Operating system - Linux servers provide FrontPage Extensions that help you seamlessly integrate your application.and the biggest advantage is that Linux is freely available.
Thanks
