I have a problem and cannot find any solution for it . I have read many forums and test many suggestion for this issue please help me.
I have a Dell inspiron 6400 notebook with ATI X1400 VGA and ubuntu 8 installed on it. My VGA Driver has installed and I see that in hardware driver listed and enabled and mark with in use.
But my screen resolution is limited to 800*600 and in Screen Resolution window I have no other choice.
Can anybody help me? I cannot solve this problem by myself.

You can try to restore graphical display in Ubuntu 8.04 as follows:

1. Boot your computer in Recovery Mode. That's the second option in the Grub boot menu. When you don't normally get to see the Grub menu, render it visible by pressing the Esc (escape) key several times when the BIOS screen turns up.

2. At the end of the boot procedure from Recovery Mode, you are presented with a small menu in which you can choose a few options. Select Try to fix X-server

3. Now try to boot into the normal graphical environment. If the fix has worked, everything is OK again and you're presented with a normal desktop.
