Subject: Which distro...(I hate phrasing it this way...)

No, it's not your newb question of which distro to use.

At least, I hope not. Let me give you some background first.

I've primarily worked with Fedora/RedHat/CentOS when it comes to System Administration. I play with servers, set up networks, limit users, write scripts to torment them, all that fun stuff. :)

Currently running XP64 and Slackware on another partition, however I'm not satisfied with either. (Slackware only on the point that it lacks 64-bit, otherwise I've been able to work around any issues I've had) I'm going to be building a gaming rig sometime over the summer with various OSs; I plan on running various tests to see how each handles games/emulation/etc.

However my goal right now is to find the distro that will give me the best performance, and compatibility to be able to run windows games. My old desktop is long dead, but I'm running a fairly powerful laptop. Until I actually have my desktop to play with, I can't really afford to screw around. (Laptop is mainly used for work, but side entertainment is nice)

So. I'd like to hear personal experience on the subject. I've been strongly considering Gentoo, but I've heard from a few people here and there that it's been going downhill as of late. I'd also like to hear anything about your experiences with Cedega, as I've only had a chance to play with one game which ran perfectly. That is a weak basis of comparison however. :P

Thanks in advance guys!

People have been saying Gentoo has been going downhill for years.
Really tho, as far as I've seen they've just been migrating stuff around and changing how a few things are done. Its not really going downhill. I've been using it for a few years, and its been a pain from time to time, but its nowhere near dead. The gentoo followers are just a very vocal and disagreeable bunch ;)

Besides my love for gentoo, Cedega isn't bad, but crossover games seems to be rapidly becoming better (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/)

But thats really all I have, I don't play games much on my PC anymore, mostly console gaming now. :)
